Beginning next year, Foods and Nutrition will no longer be a class offered to students at the Academy. Instead, the current foods room is planned to be transformed into a classroom that will be used to encourage inventions of all types and will support students in a natural connection toward the facilitation of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.

The makerspace/innovation lab that will take place in the foods room is made for creating, designing, innovating and inventing. This room has the ability to be incorporated with any class at the Academy. For example, health might visit the makerspace room to learn to cook a healthy dinner or a science or math class may use the new room to design or 3D print.

The new makerspace is hoped to have kitchen equipment, sewing equipment, 3D printers, laser cutters, power tools, and more so students will be able to learn kinesthetically and will even hopefully be offered for use after regular school hours.
