As the year begins, the high school mind is spinning with thousands of ideas, struggles, and opportunities. Every person is looking for something different this year, whether that be a role in the musical, a starting spot on the team, or a certain grade in that one subject (it’s math, let’s be honest here). What we should really be looking for is marriage. No, you didn’t read wrong, I said marriage.

In Romans 7, Paul uses a beautiful illustration. He says just like when a husband dies, and the widow can remarry, “you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.” We have died to not only the old law, but also to the current law of the world. We have died to politics, to addictions, to hatred, to brokenness, to exclusivity, to the ways of this earth, and have been taken and made whole by the dripping grace of God and by the powerful body of Christ. This year, may we be longing for nothing but marriage into the perfect works of the Holy Spirit.
