Women’s soccer has sparked a new wave of popularity throughout the United States and even across the World. The US Women’s soccer team defeated Japan in the 2015 World Cup Final by a score of 52 to claim the World Cup title. Possibly sweeter than the victory itself, the match was watched by over 25.4 million viewers in the United States making it the most viewed soccer match in US television history. With that being said, the US women’s soccer team gets to hold both these titles. Lipscomb Academy also has a wave of phenomenal female soccer talent with a stacked group of seniors leading the charge.

A stand out player for the Lipscomb Mustangs, Elizabeth Grogan, committed this past year to play at Harding University in the fall of 2017. Along with Grogan’s senior leadership, are five other seniors for the Lady Mustangs: Kate Owens, Megan Long, Abigail King, Molly Ness, and Emily Pickle. The Lady Mustangs have experience on their side along with excellent coaching. Coach Proffitt continues his duty as head coach, along with his newly acquired assistant, Coach Spragg.

The Lady Mustangs have won 5 of their first 6 matches by a combined score of 307. In half of these matches, the Lady Mustangs have shutout the other team. Defensive dominance is not the only thing the Lady Mustangs excel at. In multiple matches, the Mustangs have put up 10 goals! To put this in perspective, the Lipscomb Football put up 10 points in their first home game on September 2nd. The Lady Mustangs have started off their season on the right foot, and have big things ahead of them for the rest of the season. With the talent of the players on the field along with great coaching, the season seems far from over. Go Mustangs!
