Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and as the days tick down, those of you who don’t have a special someone to shower you with gifts tend to get a little depressed. So I’m here to fix that. As someone who has never had a significant other on this mushy-gushy holiday, I know how to deal without sobbing into a gallon of mint-chocolate chip ice cream. Here are some ways to enjoy your day of love, with people you love.

Girls (or guys, to be honest, I don’t judge), these tips are for you:

  1. Go get manicures, pedicures, massages, whatever it takes to make you feel pampered, with your best friend. You can still make this day all about you and your happiness by treating yourself to a spa day.
  2. Bake a ton of sweets. Make a three tiered cake or six dozen cookies or experiment and create triple fudge brownies with coconut icing. Something crazy like that. You can bake with friends, or just hoard all the delicious goods to yourself, but either way you’ll be a lot happier after a sugar rush for the history books.
  3. Trade Valentine’s Day cards/gifts with a group of friends. It’s like having a valentine, just multiplied! That means more candy and more cheesy lines about love to make you laugh.
  4. Marathon romantic comedies. Sometimes you can just get that secondhand feeling of butterflies in your stomach by watching other people fall in love. If you can do that without resorting to the ice cream, go for it! I suggest all of Nora Ephron’s movies and NO Nicholas Sparks. I want love and happiness, not heartbreak and tears.

Guys (or gals, seriously, judge-free zone here) this list is for you:

  1. If you are like most guys I know, you probably won’t even remember when Valentine’s Day is, much less worry about not having a girl to buy expensive gifts for. So just stay inside playing video games and watching ESPN. Or go play the sports yourself, idk, you do you.
