So it has come to my attention that some of you weren’t at school that Monday after Winter Break. It’s quite understandable. Waking up at the crack of dawn after so many days of sleeping in is no easy task. But if you weren’t at school that Monday, I truly feel sorry for you. Because that was the day it snowed in school.

That’s right, you didn’t read that wrong, it snowed in the school. How the millions of snowflakes fell onto the floors of the high school hallways in the first place is an unsolved mystery to all. Even Mrs. Reynolds and Coach Musick can’t explain the science behind it. All we do know is that the hallways were blanketed in at least two feet of soft snow. When they arrived, students waded through, unable to believe their eyes. Some laid down in the powdery snow and made angels. Braver souls started wars, snowballs flying down Junior and Senior hall. The teachers tried to corral everyone to the cafeteria, but there was no way to control the students.

Now, some of the more strict administrative figures tried to return some semblance of balance to the school day, but for five hundred kids who go crazy at the barest hint of snow…there was no hope. By the end of first period, all high schoolers were playing in the impossible snow. Freshmen build snowmen in the math hallway. Sophomores and juniors built forts, their snowball fights something most people steered clear of.  Seniors discovered the thin layer of ice coating the floors and they turned trashcan lids into sleds. Teachers made hot chocolate and some even joined in the fun themselves.

The snow was a miracle. It was probably the only snowfall middle Tennessee will get all winter. The true miracle though, was when Mr. Savage announced on the loudspeaker that for the whole day, unapproved outerwear was going to be allowed to be worn in the hallways. It was truly the best school day in Lipscomb Academy history.
