As soon as the gun popped, Katie Coker took the lead of the girls’ varsity race last Thursday. The rest of the team wasn’t far behind her. After 3.1 excruciating miles, all but two of the varsity girls achieved a personal best time, placing the team in fifth place over all out of twelve teams. Katie Coker held the lead and won first place in the race. She is competing in Saturday’s state meet individually. When asked how she feels about competeing at state, she says “I’m excited to be able to compete individually and I’m so thankful for all the support I’ll have with the whole team being there to cheer me on”.

When it came time for the boys to compete, they took the lead with all eight varsity members pushing their way to the front. The team had a couple of setbacks when one of the top runners had to drop out due to injury and another was re-injured. That didn’t stop the team from winning second place overall and advancing to state. The winning the team will head to the Spaghetti Factory this Friday to celebrate.
