Last Friday, President Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning refugees trying to immigrate from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Yemen and Libya – seven majority-Muslim nations. This order includes every person with a visa from the countries specified, including legal residents and green card holders, meaning if they were to leave and come back into the country, they would not be permitted to.

Trump made a statement declaring the suspensions from these seven countries were necessary in order to protect the nation from potential terror attacks until the procedures of the vetting process are determined how to best strengthen them. Since then, Trump’s order has prompted protests across the nation and legal issues being addressed in court. Protests at several airports across the nation broke out since due to people with valid documentation being detained. Trump stated that his order was not a “Muslim ban,” but instead was a ban regarding terror and the safety of our country.

As protests continue, more executive orders by Trump regarding immigration may be signed this coming week. It appears that Trump’s first priority as President is to crack down on immigration laws both regarding the border and with refugees during his first week in office.
